On behalf of the International Regulatory Peptide Society, the Summer Neuropeptide Conferences, the European Neuropeptide Club and the Groupe Français des Peptides et des Protéines, we would like to invite you to participate to RegPep2016 that will be held in Rouen (Normandy, France) from July 12th to 14th, 2016. The venue of RegPep2016 will be the Law Faculty, a beautiful new building located in downtown Rouen, on the bank of the Seine River, within walking distance from the Place du Vieux-Marché (where Joan of Arc was burnt alive in 1431) and the famous Cathedral, painted by Claude Monet.

The scientific program will comprise a Lay-public Lecture, 3 Plenary Lectures, 20 Symposia with 80 State-of-the-Art Lectures, 32 free oral communications selected from the abstracts, 12 communications from young investigators and 2 poster sessions.

Sessions will address both basic and clinical issues. Participation of clinicians and private companies is encouraged. Basic research will also be well represented with some sessions addressing for instance evolutionary aspects. Attending RegPep2016, you will be able to learn about the most recent advances on peptides that regulate cell, tissue or organ functions in physiological or pathological conditions. For more information regarding the program, please visit the RegPep2016 website (www.regpep2016.fr).

Besides the scientific program, the social events, included in the registration fee of all participants and accompanying persons, will comprise a get-together party on Tuesday July 12th, a visit of Rouen Impressionist Museum and a Banquet Dinner on Wednesday July 13th, and a visit of Rouen plus a firework display on the Seine River on Thursday July 14th. Travel awards for young investigators (graduate students and postdoctoral fellows) will be available. Satellite meetings will be organized before the RegPep2016 (July 11th) and an optional excursion to Etretat Alabaster coast will be proposed after the meeting (July 15th). We very much hope that you will be able to join us for this major international meeting on bioactive peptides in Rouen in 2016. During this meeting, you will meet old friends and colleagues, and initiate new relationships with others working in fields similar to your own.

Registrations are now open on the website with an attractive fee until January 31th, 2016 for early registration. If there is anything that we can do to help you attend the congress, please do not hesitate to contact us directly at david.vaudry@univ-rouen.fr

Funding obtained to support extended visit
Posted the 2013/05/16
April 2013

Dr Alison Edwards and Dr Vladimir Gubala at the Medway School of Pharmacy have been successful in securing further funds (£440) to facilitate researcher exchange with Dr Helene Castel at the University of Rouen for the project “Targeting of chemotactic vasoactive peptide receptor signalling in neurovascular diseases”.

The University of Kent offers an internal competition for additional research support where the main criteria are ‘excellence’ and the support of longer-term development of research in the Faculty of Science.

We plan that Dr Matthew Freddi will visit Helene’s team for a week in July 2013 to facilitate the transfer of knowledge between the Medway and Rouen research teams. This should enhance the design and application of the silica based nanoparticles (prepared at Medway) for the delivery of antagonists of the vasoactive neuropeptide urotensin II (UII) to tumours in the brain.

Appointment of two researchers at Medway School of Pharmacy
Posted the 2013/05/03
Two researchers have begun working at the Medway School of Pharmacy in the UK on a new project entitled “Targeting of chemotactic vasoactive peptide receptor signalling in neurovascular diseases”. Dr Matthew Freddi and Mohammed Momin will work under Dr Alison Edwards and Dr Vladimir Gubala, in the Chemistry Drug Delivery group. The project is being conducted in collaboration with Dr Helene Castel at the University of Rouen and we look forward to further collaboration with other experts in the PeReNE network.

The goal of the current project is to develop a system for the targeted delivery of antagonists of the vasoactive neuropeptide urotensin II (UII) to tumours in the brain using silica-based nanocarriers. Dr Castel has shown that urotensin II, through activation of its receptor, favors pro-angiogenic cell recruitment and glioma cell invasion. Therefore the delivery of these antagonists provides a potential treatment to target this pathway. Work at Medway focuses on the preparation of silica based nanoparticles capable of systemic delivery of such antagonists.

Mohammed joined the Medway School of Pharmacy in 2005 and works as a Research Associate. Before this he worked for a number of academic institutions, biochemical and pharmaceutical companies. During this time he undertook an MSc in Analytical Chemistry of Clinical Materials at the Birkbeck College London. Mohammed obtained his BSc(Hons) in Applied Chemistry from the University of Kingston.

Matthew has been newly appointed as a Research Associate at the school, and comes directly from completing his PhD. Matthew graduated from The University of Nottingham in July 2012 where he was part of the EPSRC/AstraZeneca funded Doctoral Training Centre in Targeted Therapeutics within the School of Pharmacy. His PhD project investigated advanced drug delivery strategies for osteoarthritis, including both nanoparticle and hydrogel drug delivery systems. Matthew graduated from University of Nottingham with a BSc(Hons) in Biochemistry in 2007.
